Hi, I'm Liz.
GP. Yoga teacher. Mum of three. Founder of Village Roots Yoga.
I've spent many years working as a GP and now also have the privilege of teaching yoga. Every day I see how the pressures of modern life can affect both our physical and emotional wellbeing. While medicine plays an essential role in keeping us healthy, I've also come to appreciate just how important movement, breath, rest and connection are in helping us to thrive.
Looking back, I realise yoga has been there for me through many of life's biggest transitions—from becoming a mum, to navigating perimenopause, to starting a new chapter as my children became adults. It's helped me find strength, calm and perspective, and that's something I hope to share with others.
My yoga journey began over 27 years ago, shortly after the birth of my first baby. Like many new mums, I was simply hoping to regain some strength and muscle tone after pregnancy. On a whim I bought a yoga video from HMV. It promised to help me tone up after having a baby, but what I discovered was so much more than exercise.
As well as becoming stronger physically, yoga had a profound effect on my mental wellbeing. It gave me a sense of calm, perspective and space during one of life's biggest transitions into motherhood. Over the years it became something I could always come back to, and when I later navigated the challenges of peri-menopause, it once again helped me feel stronger, calmer and better equipped to embrace another season of life.
As my three children grew into young adults and began leaving home to find their own paths, I started thinking about what the next chapter of my life might look like. It felt like the perfect time to deepen a practice that had given me so much over the years. I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Soul Sanctuary Studios in Worcestershire, and teaching yoga felt like a natural next step—a chance to share something that has supported me through so many different seasons of life.
That's how Village Roots Yoga came to life.
My classes aren't about perfect poses or touching your toes. They're about creating time to slow down, breathe deeply, move mindfully and reconnect with yourself. Whether you're completely new to yoga, returning after a break, or simply looking for an hour each week that's just for you, you'll always receive a warm welcome.
Living in rural Worcestershire, I've always loved the sense of community that village life brings. We know the value of looking out for one another, slowing down and taking time to connect. That's the feeling I hope you'll find at Village Roots Yoga—a place where everyone is welcome, nobody feels out of place, and you can simply come as you are.
My hope is that you'll leave each class feeling a little lighter, a little calmer and a little more connected—to yourself and to the people around you.
Come as you are.
Leave feeling lighter.
I'll see you on the mat.
Liz
