Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Village Roots Yoga including classes, what to bring, and what makes our space unique.
I've never practiced yoga before. Can I still come?
Absolutely! Everyone is welcome whether you are new to yoga or have been practising for years. Everything is explained clearly and you'll be encouraged to work at your own pace. There’s no pressure to keep up with anyone else or to look a certain way during the practice —simply listen to your body and enjoy moving in a way that feels right for you.
Do I need to be flexible to start yoga?
Not at all! Improving flexibility can be one of the benefits of practising yoga, not a requirement. You don't need to be able to get into any fancy poses. Yoga meets you exactly where you are. With practice and time strength and flexibility will naturally increase.
What do I need to bring with me?
Just yourself and a bottle of water!
All the equipment you need for class—including yoga mats, blankets and props—will be provided. If you already have a favourite yoga mat and prefer to use your own, you're very welcome to bring it along.
What should I wear to the class?
Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in. Leggings, joggers, shorts, T-shirts or light layers are all perfect. Yoga is practised barefoot, although socks are absolutely fine during relaxation if you prefer.
I'm pregnant. Can I attend?
Village Roots Yoga classes are not suitable during pregnancy, at any stage. If you've recently had a baby, you are very welcome to return to class from 12 weeks postnatal onwards, provided you feel ready to do so and have been cleared to return to exercise by your healthcare professional if appropriate. The classes are not targeted specifically to the postnatal period and you might prefer to find a postnatal class that you can take your baby to and have the opportunity to meet other mums.

Can I eat before class?
It is generally recommended to avoid eating a heavy meal 2-3 hours before practicing yoga, as full stomachs can make movement uncomfortable. A light snack about an hour before class is usually perfectly fine.
I have an injury or medical condition. Can I still attend?
It depends on your individual circumstances. Please let me know about any injuries, health conditions or recent surgery when you book, so that I can advise whether the class is appropriate and offer modifications where suitable.
If you're unsure whether yoga is right for you, please check with your healthcare professional before attending.
